PRINTMAKER – ILLUSTRATOR
Inspired by a love for the outdoors and a passionate curiosity, Beatrice’s work is informed by adventures in nature; sailing the seas of the Arctic Circle, climbing frozen volcanoes in Antarctica and searching for minute fossils under the microscope.
Working alongside scientists, naturalists and explorers gives Beatrice a unique perspective on the natural world as she brings together art, science and story-telling. Her knack for spotting intriguing and often overlooked details, investigating and sharing them, encourages others to go out together and explore the world around them.
A Celebration of Seaweed
Inspired by herbarium sheets at the Natural History Museum and the decorative collections of early female seaweed experts, Beatrice set off to learn the arts of identifying and pressing seaweed.
Whilst exploring the coastline, from white sanded Hebridean islands to the rocky coves of Cornwall, Beatrice found herself plunged into an eye-opening world of fabulous colours and dancing fronds. She jettisoned her ideas of drawing dried, flattened specimens, taking up instead inks, paints and delicate papers with which to capture the vibrant hues, rippling shapes and distinctive character of each species.
This exhibition is the first in a series using collage and illustration to celebrate the wonderful world of the seaweeds living all around us, just beneath the surface.
